Indoors cafe with an outdoor decor; the Kaffeehaus Vienna in the NGV is setup temporarily while the gallery is exhibiting Vienna: Art & Design.
I have made the booking to sit in at 3pm but got a call at 2:30pm from the cafe manager informing me that the cafe would close by 3:30pm as the gallery requested to use the space. Luckily, we were already around the area so there were time for us to have hightea if we began then; else we would have to move into the Tearoom in the gallery.
I enjoy catching up with girlfriends over afternoon tea which was why I picked NGV to try out this time. We selected the Afternoon Tea from the menu which is similar to hightea but on a lighter end. The lady who served us introduced every single bite-sized snack to us as they were brought to the table.
What we have ordered:
Afternoon Tea (High Tea)
- Mini mushroom and beef pie
- Poppy seed bagel, smoked ocean trout, sour cream, dill, capers, pea, salmon
- Baby brioche bread roll, Tarrago triple cream brie, quince paste
- Chicken and mayonnaise finger sandwich
- Cakes and Pastries
Didn’t seem like much but we were really filled with the 3-tier afternoon tea! I wouldn’t say it was the BEST hightea out there especially if you are a fan of Victorian style; but if you just want to have a good catchup with light snacks and beverages on the side – let it be Kaffeehaus Vienna while it’s here in Melbourne =)
