We never got dessert from Jamie’s because we were soo full after our cocktails and mains!

Jamie's does not take reservation for small groups, they operate on first in first served basis. Hence the restaurant placed a beautiful chandelier at the waiting area, you can see it from the outside of the restaurant. As soon as you pass this waiting area, there is a long narrow corridor where diners may have a cocktail while they wait for fellow diners or an available table.

While waiting for our friends to arrive, one of them being the birthday boy who doesn't know about our surprise and the other who planned this surprise with us.

While waiting for our friends to arrive, one of them being the birthday boy who doesn’t know about our surprise and the other who planned this surprise with us.

Let me elaborate on the ‘surprise’ for ones who are interested:

We decided to do something for our friend – Shoes’ birthday by going up to Sydney to surprise him. The plan was to appear at his birthday lunch, but how do we keep this secret from him?!

@lilyeatscake lent us a hand and met up with Shoes earlier that day and brought him to the selected restaurant – Jamie’s Italian.

The complication was how Jamie’s did not take reservation, so we couldn’t think of more creative ways to surprise Shoes other than waiting for him at the table…

The surprise was successful regardless how I imagined the lead up was supposed to be!

Wished that I had the opportunity to capture Shoes' expression in that 'surprise' moment - Happy Birthday =]

We were looked after by a lovely waiter who paid a lot of attention to details with his service to us, he spent some extra time with us explaining what was most popular on the menu and which cocktails were suitable for the occasion. I was the only one who ordered a non-pasta dish so my knife got swapped to a steak knife by him. I felt quite strange when the service was flawless, of course I appreciated it but it felt a bit weird!

From everyone’s feedback on the food, they were happy with their pastas and the freshness they had tasted. I liked my steak burger, and understood why I was supplied with a steak knife to tackle it down. What we had enjoyed the most was the dining environment and the professional yet laid back vibes delivered by the staff members.

The diners next to us who came in later than us started to order their desserts when we were still going through our mains – because we took so long taking photos of the food in the dim lighted restaurant. Each one of us had a camera and used our mobile phones to provide additional lighting.

At the end of the day, it is more important to enjoy what you are doing =] And this is better when you have great company and tasty food. [Photo Credit: @lilyeatscake]
