The queue outside PappaRich on a Friday during lunch time
Outdoor dining area
PappaRich, when I asked my Malaysian friend what she thought of it she told me ‘it’s really good’ without any hesitation.
Considering PappaRich’s popularity in Melbourne, we had to queue up for a table on that Friday. The restaurant is filled up with diners from inside out, tables are placed very close to each other which created the warm Malaysian hawkers’ atmosphere.

The beverage station
The staff were friendly and willing to help in PappaRich; I was about to approach the table with bottles of water when a staff offered to bring them to me and politely asked me to sit back down. The ordering procedure in PappaRich works under a ring-the-bell system where the diners press a button placed on their table when they are ready to make the order, this system makes it very efficient for both the diners and the staff.
What we have ordered:
Pappa Wat Tan Hor 爸爸滑蛋河 $10.90
Wok-fried combination flat noodles with egg gravy
Pappa Wat Tan Hor (Combination noodles) 爸爸滑蛋河
My friend’s usual selection at PappaRich
Pappa Asam Laksa 爸爸亚三拉沙 $10.90
Thick rice noodles served in aromatic fish-based tamarind broth with shredded pineapple, lettuce, red chilli, cucumber, onion, and lemon grass. Topped with shrimp paste and mint leaves.
Pappa Asam Laksa 爸爸亚三拉沙 – Fish-based laksa with fresh topping; something different from an ordinary laksa
The sour soup base made the laksa refreshing
Roti Telur 印度鸡蛋抛饼 $6.50
Roti Canai with egg throughout the bread
