Located on the corner of Chapel St and Inkerman St, the Neighbours Cafe stands out on this quite end of the street.

  1. [...] worked at a small cafe called Neighbours on Chapel Street in Melbourne and the baristas there were obsessed with creating a perfect cup of [...]

  2. Awful service. I had read in two other reviews that the young staff would openly make fun of customers behind their backs (but within easy earshot). I assumed this was an aberration or that the relevant staff would be gone. No. The two times I went in the owner was absent, and maybe that makes a difference to how these people act towards customers. The first time I was made fun of as I left by some American/Canadian accented girl and the “coffee boy” – I almost went up to the counter to ask them what they thought they were doing, but didn’t want the conflict. The second time, the American girl would ask my order and then start talking to other people. She was concentrating so little she got my order wrong and then had the audacity to say, “huh – what?” when I corrected her – as though I had some form of speech impediment – when it was her being rude and ignoring me and concentrating more on her friends (very belittling and unprofessional) which was the problem. She had actually seemingly gone out of her way to display her lack of interest and involvement in (and hatred for) her job, from her cold opening to her detached and indifferent persona the whole way though. Good food and coffee, appalling staff. AVOID !!

    • Hi Kim!! That was some awful experience that you have gone through. We went there about a year ago, luckily we only took a couple of take-aways? I hope that they can improve somehow in the long term!! Thank you for your genuine comment +)
